Day tour to White Temple, Black house & Golden Triangle

I booked a day tour to White temple, Black house and Golden triangle during my second day at Chiang Mai. Most of the places were located roughly 200 km away from Chiang Mai city. The tour started around 7 am and it ended around 9 pm. The roads were perfect from Chiang mai to Chiang Rai. This part of Thailand receives huge rainfall all throughout the year but still the roads were perfect. Our first stop in the tour was white temple. This temple was the most beautiful temple I have ever seen in my entire life. White temple is a privately built art exhibit. Sometimes if you visit the temple you can also meet the architecture who designed it. The temple was built in the early 2000.

Baan Dam or Black house is situated 1 hour drive from White temple. It was a wooden house built by Thawan Duchanee. The house has some of the unique architecture I have ever seen. A visit to Chiang Mai will be incomplete without visiting black house.

After visiting Black house we went to Golden triangle. We stopped at a restaurant for lunch. We tried some great Burmese food. Burmese food is completely different from Thai food and it is little bit similar to Lao food. Golden triangle is a border between Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. These 3 countries are separated by the Mekong river. The tour includes a trip to Laos just across the Mekong river. We had to deposit our passport in the office in order to proceed towards Laos.

There is a huge market situated at the Laos side of the Mekong river. The most interesting part was animal whiskey. Parts or body of animals were kept inside the alcohol bottle in order to ferment the alcohol more. The most famous was snake whiskey. Different kinds of snakes were kept inside the alcohol bottle. You can try cup of the whiskey even if you don’t want to try the whole bottle. Well I skipped this part. Around 5 pm we started our journey back to Chiang Mai. It was a long day tour and we finished our tour around 9 pm.
