Melbourne City One day Itinerary

Melbourne City One day Itinerary

It was just a short 1 hour flight from Sydney to Melbourne. Melbourne is the second populous city in Australia. Melbourne is ranked as the most livable city in the world 7 times in a row. I visited Melbourne during the last week of September and it was raining when i stepped out of the Airport. The weather was terrible because of the cold, windy and rainy conditions. I planned to stay two days at Melbourne and i was hoping for a good weather for the next two days. I went for the Great Ocean road tour on the first day at Melbourne. The next day i decided to tour around Melbourne city and the weather was far better compared to the previous day.

Brighton Beach – I decided to visit the famous Brighton beach early morning in order see the Bathing Boxes. I was staying near Melbourne North Railway station. Brighton beach was located by around 14 km from central Melbourne. The best way to visit the place is by taxi. The Metro connectivity is not so great and it takes almost 2 hours to reach the place by train. The beach is famous for uniformly proportioned wooden bathing boxes. There are around 82 bathing boxes each colored in a different way. There is a unique feel to the beach because of the presence of the bathing boxes. I would recommend to visit the place early in order to avoid crowds.

Melbourne cricket Ground – From Brighton beach i took a taxi to the famous MCG stadium. The stadium is the largest cricket stadium in the world. The stadium hosted two world cup finals and lots of major series featuring all the top cricket playing nations. The stadium is famous for the annual boxing day test match. You can join for group tour If you want to visit the museum and the stand inside the stadium. The tour is available everyday except the match day and the tickets can be purchased from the entrance.

Federation Square Melbourne is a venue built just adjacent to Yarra river for arts, culture and public event. There are huge screens fitted near federation square and on that day i spent some time watching US Open tennis. From Federation Square you get great views of Melbourne Skyline on the background of Yarra river. Yarra river is the center of Melbourne city. You can take boat tours along the Yarra river in order view spectacular skyline of Melbourne city. River boardwalk is primarily used by locals for jogging along the river. I just loved walking along the boardwalk. You can stop by the restaurants situated near the Yarra river for some great dining experience.

Hosier Lane Melbourne – Hosier lane is famous for its street art. The lane is easy to find and it is located very close to the Federation Square. The lane is narrow and it is usually crowded with tourists. You might have to queue up sometime in order to take your favorite photo along with the street art. AC/DC lane and Rutledge lane are also famous for street art. If you want food experience clubbed with street art then you should visit Center Place.

It started raining again after sunset and the weather was really cold. I wanted to try some street food so went to the Queen victoria night market. It is a small night market compared to night markets in south east asia.
I tried some hot crispy fried chicken in order to get some relief from the Melbourne weather. Overall it was a great trip to Melbourne. I absolutely loved the Great Ocean road trip and it was worth all the hype.
