Zhuhai is a coastal city located in southern Guangdong province. Zhuhai borders Macau towards the southern side and it can be visited as a day trip from Macau. I visited Zhuhai as a day trip from Hong Kong and the one way ferry ride from Hong Kong to Zhuhai takes about 1 hour. Zhuhai is a major tourist destination in China and it is also called Chinese Riviera. Zhuhai has High Speed Railway connectivity to major cities in China and it takes about 1 hour to reach Guangzhou from Zhuhai. Zhuhai is known for Natural scenery, Outlying islands, Amusement parks and Historical sites.
Lovers Road & Fisher Lady – I started from Hong Kong around 9 AM and reached Zhuhai ferry pier around 10 AM. Lovers road is a famous scenic seaside walk along the Zhuhai promenade and it is a major tourist destination in Zhuhai. The road is situated just adjacent to Zhuhai ferry pier. I walked along the lovers road and it took me 1 hour to reach Mt Shijing park from Zhuhai pier. The statue of Fisher girl situated at the scenic Xianglu Bay has become the landmark of Zhuhai. The standing 8 m high statue of the Fisher girl is situated over a rock. There are number of barbecue sites and parks located near the lovers road. The small beach situated near Fisher girl statue seemed artificial to me and it was completely empty during my visit.
Mt. Shijing Park – I reached the base of Xiniuwangyue mountain after a long walk from Zhuhai pier. The park is located at the top of the mountain and Ropeway is the best way to reach the park. The ride to the park was a thrilling experience because chairlift are used instead of closed door cable cars. The view from the Ropeway was fantastic and the entire ride took around 20 minutes. Yunju temple is situated at the top of the park and it is a major tourist attraction. The park has some nice trails and there are spectacular views of Zhuhai city and Zhuhai-Hong Kong bridge from the park. I spent around 1 hour at the park and took the Alpine coaster Toboggan ride to the base of the mountain. Most people opted for chairlift for their return journey and the Toboggan ride was not that crowded. I was able to do the ride at a comfortable speed without any unnecessary stops and this was the best part of my day tour to Zhuhai.
New Yuan Ming Palace- New Yuan Ming Palace is located at the foot of Lanpu Dashilin mountain in Zhuhai. The total area of the palace is around 1.4 Sqkm. New Yuan Ming Palace is built as the same size as old summer palace in Beijing. The palace is surrounded by mountains and Fuhai lake is situated at the center of the compound.The walking trail around the Fuhai lake was beautiful and i loved walking around the trail. The compound features number of historical sites, palaces and gardens. The observation deck is situated at the top of the mountain and you need to take rope-way in order to reach the observation deck. The view from the observation deck was spectacular. During the rope-way ride the bird’s eye view of Fuhai lake, historical sites and palaces was amazing.
Zhuhai Wanzai Seafood Street– I took a taxi from New Yuan Ming Palace and it took me 20 minutes to reach the Seafood street. The place gets really crowded after evening and i will strongly recommend to visit the seafood street just before evening time. The seafood market is located at one side of the street and restaurants are located at the other side of seafood street. I purchased the seafood from the market and gave it to the restaurant for preparation. The restaurant charged fixed price for preparation. You will find all varieties of seafood from the seafood market and the seafood is 100 % fresh because almost all the seafoods are still alive.
I initially thought the price will be affordable but it was not. Overall I really liked the place and it was a good experience to try authentic Chinese seafood cuisine. It is better to visit the seafood street in a group of at least 4-5 people so that you can try different types of seafood. The seafood street is located little far from the Zhuhai ferry pier and it takes about 30 minutes to reach the ferry pier from seafood street.
