Day tour to Cesky Krumlov shouldn’t be missed during your trip to Prague. Cesky Krumlov is a small town located about 2 hours ride from Prague. Leo Express and Flix Bus provide bus service to Cesky Krumlov from Prague. You need about 6 hours to completely see all the major tourist attraction of this small fairytale town. I booked my 8 am bus to Cesky Krumlov via Leo Express. The duration of the bus ride was about 2 hours and I reached Cesky Krumlov bus stop at around 10 am. I will strongly recommend to pre-book your return ticket from Cesky Krumlov to Prague. I booked my return ticket from Cesky Krumlov at around 5 pm. Cesky Krumlov is also listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. You can also go to Cesky Kurmlov by taking a train from the main station in Prague. The train journey is 30 minutes shorter compared to bus journey but the frequency of train is not that great. The train station is located about 20-minutes walk from Cesky Krumlov town center. Cesky Krumlov bus stop is located at a very convenient location. There is no need to take group tour if you are visiting Cesky Krumlov. You can easily visit the town on your own by booking the transport of your choice
Cesky Krumlov Castle
Cesky Krumlov Castle is the most prominent building of the town. The castle tower is visible across all parts of the town. It is the second largest castle complex in Czech Republic. The castle is located about 10-minutes walk from the Cesky Krumlov bus stop. There are no charges if you want to visit the outer compound of the Castle. You can take 2 hours to visit the Castle compound and the Castle tower. The castle is situated on the top of a mountain so you will get great views of the Cesky Krumlov town from different viewpoints. You can’t miss castle tower if you are visiting Cesky Krumlov Castle. The entrance fee to visit the tower is CZK 100. The stairs were very narrow and you need to watchout for your head if you are climbing the stairs. The view from the top of the tower is absolutely incredible. The tower was very crowded with tourists and there was not enough space. Most people were queuing up in order to take pictures of the beautiful town. If you are interested in knowing about the history of the castle, then you must visit the Castle museum. Castle wall bridges are great place for taking some nice pictures. You have more space to sit and relax compared to top of the castle tower. I had to wait at the castle wall for almost an hour because it started raining as soon as I arrived at the castle wall bridge. I ended my trip to Cesky Krumlov after visiting Castle Garden area. I will strongly recommend to visit the Cesky Krumlov castle during the afternoon time because the sun positioning is perfect at this time to take nice pictures of the surroundings. Most of the group tours arrive at Cesky Krumlov to visit the castle during morning hours. Castle tower has very small space and it gets really crowded during morning time. If you have visited all other locations in Cesky Krumlov then you can visit Castle Garden. The garden occupies a large space and you need at least an hour to see it properly.
Cesky Krumlov Monastery
Most tourists don’t visit the monasteries of Cesky Krumlov but monasteries occupy second largest premises after Cesky Krumlov castle. The convent was founded in the 14th century. The three monastery compound also has a museum and a cultural center. You can visit the monastery to learn about various exhibitions related to culture and history. The monastery is located by about 5 minutes walk from the Cesky Krumlov castle tower.
St Vitus Church
St Vitus church is another landmark of Cesky Krumlov. The church is known for its unique neo-gothic architecture. St Vitus church looks absolutely beautiful from the Cesky Krumlov castle tower. The tower of St Vitus church and Castle tower are featured in numerous photographs of Cesky Krumlov town. The church usually hosts classical concerts and different types of event throughout the year. St Vitus church is located about 5-minutes walk from Cesky Krumlov castle. The church of St Vitus oversees most of the town.
Namesti Svornosti
Namesti Svornosti is the town square of Cesky Krumlov town. From the town square you can see beautiful colorful architecture of the gothic style building. The tourist information center is located near the town center. You will also find restaurants, cafes and shops near the town center. You will also witness performance by street performers during your visit to the square. The town center is located about 10 minutes walk from Cesky Krumlov castle. You have to cross Vltava river on your way to Cesky Krumlov castle from Namesti Svornosti.
Masna street across Horni street
Masna street is a small lane just across Horni street. If you are walking towards the town center from Seminarni Zahrada then you will find this small lane towards the right side. Usually you will see tourists taking pictures near the lane. The lane is surrounded by buildings on both sides and you can view the castle tower from the narrow opening. You can take amazing shot of the Castle tower from a different perspective and I will strongly recommend to take the shot during night time to avoid crowd.
Seminarni Zahrada
If you are walking from the Cesky Krumlov bus stop then this will be your first stop for taking some nice photographs of the beautiful Cesky Krumlov town. The garden terrace is located at an elevated location and it gives perfect view of the Cesky Krumlov castle tower and the St vitus church. The view of the Cesky krumlov castle tower is completely unobstructed from the garden. The view looks completely different from different angle and you might have to queue up long time to take perfect shot of the tower.
Hill Near Cesky Krumlov bus station
This was by far my favorite spot during my visit to Cesky Krumlov town. You will get beautiful shot of the entire town from this lookout point. The lookout point is situated by 5-minutes walk from Cesky Krumlov bus station. The hill is situated between the bus stop and the Kaplicka street. You have to climb little uphill on the way to Kaplicka street. You can visit the site by following the exact location provided below
Siroka Street
Namesti Svornosti is connected to Cesky Krumlov castle via Siroka street. Siroka street is a popular tourist destination of Cesky krumlov. Siroka street was featured in famous Hollywood movie “Hostel”. You will get great shots of the colorful houses from the street. You will also find small number of restaurants and cafes around the street.
