Langkawi is an island only 30 km off the coast of Malaysia. The island is a very famous tourist spot across Asia. It is served by an international airport. Car renting is very affordable in Langkawi and the best way to explore the island is by renting a car. Langkawi is a beach destination but there are tons of other activity to do.
Day 1 Itinerary
Kilim Geo Park and Mangroves tour– Kilim Geopark is a natural reserve having size of around 100 sqkm. There are lot of stunning formation like Limestone Mountains, caves, beaches and mangroves. The tour starts from the Kilim Jetty point. Most hotels organize this tour and there is a pickup service available from the hotel to the jetty. You can join a group your or you can hire personal boat in order to do the tour. Personal boat cost around RM 250 for 1 hour and RM 500 for 4 Hour.
Initially the ride will be along the river where you can see some great limestone mountains and dense mangrove forest. In no time you will reach your first destination which is the fish farm. You can also have lunch here at the farm.
The place was populated with lots of eagle and you can also see eagle feeding. The boatman throws some food into the air and the eagle grabs the food. The ecosystem is widely protected and there is a raw feel to the entire tour. You can see lots of big lizard around the muddy shores of the mangroves. There were no crocodiles in the park.
We reached our final destination which was the bat cave. There was a weird smell inside the cave so I hardly spent any time inside the cave but the surrounding scenery was very good.
Crocodile farm– Langkawi crocodile farm was located about 30 minutes ride from the kilim pier. The crocodile farm has the area of around 20 acres and it has one of the largest crocodile collection in the world. Every hour you can enjoy a 30 minutes crocodile feeding show. The crocodile in the parks were huge and the feeding show was incredible. The entrance fee for the park was very reasonable.
Langkawi Cable Car and Sky bridge– Langkawi cable car and sky bridge was located around 30 minutes drive from the crocodile farm. Langkawi has very good road connectivity and the scenery from of the drive was incredible. I took the cable car and bridge access combo pass at the ticket counter. The ticket also includes a 4D show near the ticket counter area. The complex has lot of restaurants and shopping places. Langkawi cable car length was around 2 km and it takes around 20 minutes to reach the top. The cable car was very steep and you get a beautiful views of the steep mountains of Langkawi along with Pantai Senang beach. After reaching the top station it takes around 10 minutes walk to reach the sky bridge. You can also take sky tram in order to reach the bridge because it is very steep and it takes good physical fitness for uphill return.
The sky bridge was an iconic attraction for Langkawi. The bridge was suspended 100m above the ground. The architecture of the bridge was beautiful. During my visit to the bridge it was very windy and lot of people didn’t want to visit the bridge. At a time around 250 people can visit the bridge. The view from the bridge was incredible and it was definitely a great engineering marvel. After spending around 30 minutes at the bridge I took the cable car in order to reach the base station.
Langkawi Eagle Square.- Langkawi eagle square was located around 30 minutes ride from the Langkawi cable car center. Langkawi was derived from malay word which means reddish brown eagle. The 12 m tall statue is a major symbol of the city. The statue was made from a single stone piece. It took more than 5 years to make the eagle. The best time to visit the place is during the sunset time. You can also visit a park adjacent to the eagle square.
After the trip to eagle square I returned to my hotel at Pantai Cenang beach. There are lots of resorts and restaurants near the beach. Most of the tourists stay near the Pantai Cenang beach.
Day 2 Jet ski tour
I reached the Pantai Cenang beach early morning for the jet-ski tour. The beach was completely empty because the weather was very windy. The sea beach was perfect place to do some early morning jogging.
I took a full day Jet Ski tour on the second day at Langkawi. The total duration of the tour was around 4 hours and it is available both during morning and afternoon time. You can book your tour at megawatersports.com. The tour starts from the mega water sports center at the Pantai Cenang beach. The cost of the day tour was around RM 700 for one person opting for single Jet Ski. There are three types of tour available at Mega water sports the most famous is tour 1. We started at around 9 am from the pier. The sea was very rough but since most of us had Jet Ski experience before we decided to go ahead. Novice Jet Ski riders please avoid this tour most of the time the sea is very rough so please be cautious when opting for the tour. After jumping lots of waves successfully we finally managed to reach calm waters. When riding above a wave you can’t go directly above the wave the best way to proceed is through sideways. Two riders in your group fell from Jet Ski because they went too high while jumping the wave and couldn’t balance the Jet Ski after the jump.
We arrived at our first destination which was a small island having a great sea beach. We parked our jet ski and spent around 1 hour in the island. The next stop was a Geo park which was very secluded compared to the other tourist place. We also stopped at a place where there was an inland sea since there was no waves in that place our guide asked us to ride the jet ski as fast as possible. We were all doing around 30 mph inside the big lagoon. All the jet Ski at Mega Water-sports were well maintained and the guides were very helpful. After spending around 4 hours in the jet ski tour we came back during the afternoon time. The sea was very rough when we reached the shore. We need to go along with the waves in order reach the shore. We all waited and one by one our guide helped us to reach the shore safely.
It was a great 4 hours Jet Ski tour. Unfortunately the weather was not good. The best part of the Jet Ski tour was the guide. The guide was very friendly and very helpful. Since the sea was rough we had to completely rely on him but he was experienced enough to guide us back safely to the beach.
