Georgetown and Genting Highland

Penang & Georgetown

Penang is a port city in Malaysia. The main tourist attraction in Penang is George town. George town is famous for British colonial building, street murals and Chinese shop houses. The best way to explore George town is by using motor bike. There are lots of one way roads in Georgetown so sometimes it is very confusing to ride the motorbike. I had to turn back multiple times because i ended up entering one way roads.

Penang hill – Penang hill is located about 6 km from Georgetown. Air tram is used to reach the top of the Penang hill. The ride lasts about 20 minutes. You can see beautiful view of Penang city and the bridge which connects Penang to Butterworth from the view deck. It is a great place to visit during evening time. The height of the hill is around 800m. There is a small garden and a restaurant near the viewing deck. Sunset was amazing from the observation deck.

Georgetown Murals- You can see lots of British colonial building while walking around George town. Georgetown is also famous for its street murals. The best way to visit all of them is by following the map. It is difficult to find all of them because most of the arts are located inside the small alley which makes it difficult to spot. I spend whole day riding my motorbike and searching for street arts. The street arts are great place to take photographs.

Genting Highland

After an hour long flight from Penang I arrived at Kuala Lumpur airport. Genting highland was situated by around 1 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur airport. Genting highland is famous for its resorts and casinos. First world hotel at Genting is the biggest hotel in the entire world. It has more than 7000 rooms. The corridor of the hotel was huge compared to other hotels. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable. There was a casino at the basement and at the ground floor there were restaurants and shopping complex.

Genting Skyway – Genting Skyway is a must try if you are visiting Genting highland. During my visit to Genting it was very foggy so the visibility was very bad but still it was great place to take some incredible photos. In some photos it seems like cable car was floating in the air. There is a dense forest just below the cable car. Return trip tour in the cable car was recommended because the connectivity from Gohtong Jaya is not that good. After the cable trip I boarded a free shuttle bus to Chin Swee temple.

Chin Swee Temple -The temple was a Taoist temple. The temple was very scenic and it had beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and forest. It takes nearly 3 hours to explore the temple. Nearby the temple inside a small park there is a huge Buddha statue and lot of different sculptures.  The bus depot was situated very close to the temple and you can find buses to Kuala Lumpur from the depot.
