Sabah – Killas River Day tour

Sabah – Killas River Day tour

Sabah is a Malaysian territory in the northern part of the Borneo island. Sabah is famous for Kota Kinabalu mountain which is the tallest mountain in South East Asia. It is also famous for medicinal plants, white sand beaches and wildlife. Sabah is famous for orangutan and proboscis monkey.

My flight from Hong Kong was delayed by 2 hours so I reached my hotel around 1 pm. I had booked the afternoon proboscis monkey and firefly cruise tour.  Our guide picked me from the hotel around 2 pm. After almost 2 hours ride we reached the Killas river pier. We started doing boat trip around the river and the total duration of the boat trip was around 2 hours. The river and the forest felt like a typical Hollywood movie set. We were able to spot lots of proboscis monkey and big lizards. I had never seen proboscis monkey before so it was a completely new thing for me to see. For people interested in wild life photography this is a must visit place. They said there were some crocodile but we couldn’t spot any crocodile.

After our boat tour we came back to the pier in order to eat our dinner. We tried some great authentic Malay food. You need to carry mosquito repellent spray if you are visiting the place. After our dinner we again went for another boat trip in order to get the glimpse of fireflies. Our guide asked us to switch off all the lights. It was pitch black and we could spot fireflies lightening up the mangrove forest. We spent total 1 hour in firefly cruise. After the cruise we started our journey back to Kota Kinabalu and we reached Kota Kinabalu around 10 pm.
