Bukit Tabur Hiking

Bukit Tabur Hiking

I had a free day at Kuala Lumpur so i inquired at my hostel about different activities. I decided to go for a half day hike to Bukit Tabur because it was something different from the regular tours. The tour included guide, transport and also we were supposed to try some traditional malay breakfast. The sunrise at the limestone hill was very good that’s why we started the tour around 4 am. The starting point was located around 20 km from the city center. We were 3 people from the hostel and a guide. During the early morning hike we didn’t meet any other hiking group.

Initial part of the hike was easy but steep and the paths were not well laid out. After hiking for 1.5 hours along the limestone rocks and forest we finally reached the bottle neck section. It was a 90 degree climb on the lime stone hill and the climb height was around 30 m. Lots of accidents had happened here in the past. There was also a rope in order to support the climb but our guide told us not to use the rope as it has been used lot of times in the past.

The climb was very dangerous any fall during the climb would have been fatal and completely ignoring the rope was not a good idea either. The limestone rock was very sharp. I used rope for support and I used hands in order to climb on the mountain. It was proper 80 degree rock climbing and you have to be physically fit in order to do that. The guide was very helpful in the climbing and he was directly telling us where to put our foot in order to ease the climbing. The hike shouldn’t be tried alone at all cost. After tiring 1 hour climbing we finally reached the peak. The view was not one of the best views I have seen so far but it was well worth it. The view of the reservoir was amazing from the peak. After spending an hour at the peak we started going back. This was very scary part of the hike. You become really scared when you see down. There was no way I was doing this hike if there was no rope.  I checked the rope multiples times by putting my entire weight on it then I went down really quickly and I was very happy. I will ask people not to take the tour the view was not worth it and the hike was very dangerous.

After we came down our guide asked us to take a different path for going down. The downhill path was long but very slippery and steep. We had to skid at lot of places and sit down in order to reach our final destination. The downhill path was the best part of the hiking and I lost my shoe and shorts after the hike as it was completely destroyed.

Overall it was a great trip thanks to our guide. People interested in mountain climbing or people want to seek something different from the regular tourist stuff must visit the place.
